120 Bahadur is consistently watchable because it is aware of where it is going and is able to get there without letting the pitfalls of the genre deflect it from its path.

What 120 Bahadur needed was a stronger emotional spine throughout to bind its technical strengths together. That too minus the cliched melodrama. The craft is certainly there,20 the intention is unwavering, but the film stops short of delivering the kind of lingering impact a story of this magnitude deserves. A tighter screenplay, and a sharper balance between sentiment and spectacle could have elevated it from a sincere tribute, to a stirring war drama.

Looks like everybody wants to make the next Border. But my honest request is that Bollywood must never attempt war movies. To massacre such a brave story of an equally brave army personnel who not just led but motivated his 120 bahadur men, and such a shoddy depiction of the story is nothing but shameful on the part of the filmmaker.

But despite the gorgeous frames, sincere performances, and deep respect baked into every scene, ‘120 Bahadur’ never quite climbs to the heights it aims for. It doesn’t shake you the way a war film should. You appreciate it deeply, but you don’t walk out carrying it in your chest. And for a film built on one of the most heroic stands in Indian military history, it ultimately falls short of becoming iconic. It salutes the bravehearts, with full honesty, but doesn’t immortalise them.

120 Bahadur is a film with heart, hard work and determination. It salutes bravery, celebrates the sacrifices of soldiers, and brings a difficult chapter like the Battle of Rezang La to the big screen, but the film fails to fully capture the deep emotion and cinematic intensity that this story truly deserves. It’s a good film, but not great. The story is strong, but the presentation is weak at times. The visuals are superb, but the emotional connect is lost. Still, it’s a film that must be seen, as it reminds us that real heroes stand on the border, not on screen. Hence, it deserves 3 out of 5 stars.
