JSW MG Motor has confirmed six new models for the Indian market, slated to arrive in 2026-2027. The upcoming lineup will include several electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). Anurag Mehrotra, Managing Director, JSW MG Motor India, has revealed that the company believes the EV market will flourish further this year, with expected penetration of around 6-7%.

He also revealed that MG’s product portfolio will continue to include select ICE (internal combustion engine) models, while the major focus will be on electrified powertrains. The company aims to target both the mass-market EV and the premium luxury segments, with some models to be retailed via the MG Select premium sales network.
New MG Plug-in Hybrid Car Launching This Year
JSW MG Motor has planned to introduce a plug-in-hybrid model for this year. While the name and details of the product are still under the wraps, Mehrotra has confirmed that it will be based on a flexible platform supporting multiple powertrains.
The upcoming MG plug-in-hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) will be the first offering in this segment from a mass-market OEM, although it’s expected to be positioned as a premium product. Currently, most plug-in-hybrid models available in India belong to the luxury segment. There are multiple reasons for these limited options including an unfavourable tax structure, higher manufacturing cost, packaging and practical challenges and price sensitive buyers.
SAIC’s Global PHEVs
Just so you know, SAIC Maxus and MG are subsidiaries of the parent company – SAIC Motor. The upcoming MG Majestor is heavily inspired by the Maxus D90, which is available in markets like Saudi Arabia and China. Similarly, the planned MG plug-in-hybrid vehicle could be a derivative of globally sold Maxus PHEV.
SAIC Maxus’ PHEV lineup includes the G50 Hybrid compact MPV, MIFA 9 Super Hybrid and MIFA 7 PHEV, featuring a 1.5T engine paired with a powerful electric motor. These PHEVs offer a claimed electric range of over 100km and a combined range of over 1,400km.
