India’s leading car manufacturers, Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai are gearing up for their next big product launches, targeting the electric MPV and midsize SUV segments, respectively. The Indo-Japanese automaker will introduce an all-new electric MPV, codenamed Maruti YMC, by the end of this year or early next. Meanwhile, the Hyundai Bayon SUV will make its global debut on October 12, followed by its India launch in the coming weeks. Bookings for the new Hyundai midsize SUV are already underway for a token sum of Rs 11,000.
Hyundai Bayon
The Hyundai Bayon is expected to share its 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with the Creta, which delivers power worth 115bhp and 144Nm of torque. It could be offered either with a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox. Furthermore, buyers may also have a CNG powertrain option. If launched, the Bayon will become Hyundai’s first CNG model measuring over 4 metres in length.
The India-spec Hyundai Bayon will look different from the global-spec version, which has a hatchback-like stance. In terms of features, the midsize SUV will feature the Venue-inspired curved dual screen setup along with a three-spoke steering wheel with a four-dot motif, ventilated front seats, a sunroof, a wireless phone charger, Level 2 ADAS and a 360-degree camera.
Maruti Electric MPV (YMC)
The upcoming Maruti electric MPV will be positioned against the Kia Carens Clavis EV. It’s expected to share its platform and powertrain with the Maruti eVitara, and is likely to be offered in 6 and 7-seat configurations. The entry-level variants could feature a smaller 49kWh battery pack, while the higher trims may get a larger 61kWh battery pack. The MPV is expected to deliver a driving range of over 500km.
Measuring around 4.5-metres in length, the Maruti YMC is expected to offer features such as a large touchscreen infotainment system, power adjustable driver’s seat, a wireless phone charger, wireless smartphone connectivity, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, ventilated and electrically adjustable driver’s seat, multiple airbags and more.
