New Platform

The 2027 Kia Sonet will ditch its existing platform for the new K1 architecture, which also underpins the Syros. This platform, with a stronger structural frame, provides better crash protection. It also supports advanced technologies including OTA (over-the-air) updates and remote diagnostics.

More Rear Seat Space

The K1 architecture has a 20mm longer wheelbase than Sonet’s existing platform. This should help address one of the existing models’ biggest shortcomings – the limited rear seat space. This means, the new-generation model will ensure more cabin space and comfort for rear seat passengers.

Larger Displays & Level 2 ADAS

The 2027 Kia Sonet could be offered with larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and driver’s display. The biggest upgrade, however, is likely to come in the form of Level 2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance system).

Same Petrol & Diesel Engines

Mechanically, the new Kia Sonet is likely to remain unchanged. The existing 1.2L naturally aspirated, 1.0L turbo petrol and 1.5L diesel engines will be carried forward. While the naturally aspirated petrol engine is good enough for 83PS and 115Nm, the 1.0L turbo petrol delivers power worth 120PS and 172Nm. The 1.5L diesel engine produces a maximum power of 120PS and 172Nm of torque.

The NA petrol engine will continue to be available with a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the turbo petrol engine will get the 6-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT gearbox options. The diesel variants can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Strong Hybrid in 2028

According to media reports, the new Kia Sonet will come with a strong hybrid powertrain in 2028 or 2029. However, the powertrain specifications are not available at the moment.
