Car manufacturers such as Tata, Mahindra and Renault have lined up rugged sub-4 metre SUVs, driven by tax benefits and strong market demand. These models not only offer higher margins and massive sales volumes but also cater well to urban practicality and Indian road conditions.
Mahindra & Mahindra will introduce the production-ready version of the Vision S SUV in late 2026 or early 2027, while the Tata Scarlet and Renault Bridger will arrive in 2027. Here’s a brief about these upcoming new SUVs.
Mahindra Vision S
The production-ready Mahindra Vision S is expected to retain most of the design elements from its concept. Spy images suggest that the SUV will feature boxy stance with squared windows and thick rear pillars. However, the rear windscreen appears slightly narrow. The SUV will offer a panoramic sunroof, new steering wheel split folding rear seats along with a touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster and multiple airbags.

Tata Scarlet
The Tata Scarlet will be designed on a monocoque platform, which supports ICE (internal combustion engine) and electric powertrains. The carmaker is likely to choose from engines such as the Curvv’s 12.L turbo petrol, Nexon’s 1.2L turbo petrol and the new 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engines. Renault Bridger
In the company’s product portfolio, the production-ready Renault Bridger will sit between the Kiger and Duster SUVs. Similar to the concept, the final version is expected to look rugged and muscular, featuring a blacked-out grille, LED lights with illuminated ‘RENAULT’ badging in the centre, sporty bumper with wide air dam and skid plate at the front.
