Aiming to tap the hybrid vehicle segment, Kia has confirmed three hybrid models for the Indian market, slated to arrive by 2030. The carmaker had announced the Seltos hybrid midsize SUV at its last year’s Investor Day, while the Kia Sorento hybrid and Carnival hybrid are confirmed at the 2026 Kia CEO Investor Day event.
Codenamed SP3i, the Kia Seltos hybrid is expected to debut in the first half of 2027. The Sorento three-row SUV is likely to hit roads in H2, 2027, followed by the Carnival hybrid.

What’s For the India-Spec Models?
Kia hasn’t yet shared the powertrain details for its upcoming hybrid SUVs. However, media reports suggest that the carmaker could electrify its tried-and-tested 1.5L, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. This powertrain setup is expected to offer high fuel efficiency, while generating lower carbon emissions.
Global Engine Specs
Globally, the Kia Sorento and Carnival hybrid feature a powerful 1.6L turbo petrol GDI engine, paired with 59bhp and 73-74bhp electric motors, respectively. While the 7-seater SUV offers a combined power of 227bhp with 350Nm of torque, the MPV delivers 242bhp with 367Nm. Both models come with a 6-speed automatic transmission and FWD system, while the Sorento is also available with AWD configuration option.

Key Highlights & Positioning
The Kia Selots hybrid and Carnival hybrid are likely to look similar to their ICE counterparts, except the ‘Hybrid’ badges and minor software updates. The Sorento will be all-new offering for the Indian market, measuring around 4.8 metres in length. Once launched, it will be positioned against the upcoming Hyundai Ni1i and 7-seater versions of the Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder and Renault Duster.
Kia Syros EV Officially Confirmed
Kia has also announced the Syros EV for India, which is likely to go on sales by mid-2026. To be positioned below the Carens Clavis EV, the Kia Syros EV will cater to the mass EV market. Its design details will be slightly different from its ICE version, while the EV-specific software updates will further distinguish it. The Syros EV is expected to share its powertrain and platform with the Hyundai Inster.
