The Indian hybrid vehicle segment witnessed a significant growth in financial year 2026, crossing total sales of 1.23 lakh units and capturing a 2.7% share of the passenger vehicle (PV) market. Toyota Kirloskar Motor currently dominating the segment with over 80% market share, followed by Maruti Suzuki and Honda Cars India.
Competition in the hybrid segment is set to intensify with the arrival of several new models across different price range. Carmakers such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia and Renault are gearing up to tap the mass-market with their new affordable hybrid offerings in 2026-2027. Here’s a brief on these upcoming budget-friendly hybrid SUVs.
Maruti Fronx Hybrid
Maruti Suzuki’s in-house developed strong hybrid powertrain is expected to debut in the Fronx facelift in 2027. It will be a series hybrid setup that’s said to be more efficient and economical than Toyota’s Atkinson cycle, which currently powers the Maruti Grand Vitara and Invicto. The carmaker is likely to pair this hybrid technology with a 1.2L, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine.
Hyundai Bayon Hybrid

Hyundai recently confirmed a new midsize SUV for the Indian market, slated to launch during the current financial year. Positioned between the Venue and Creta, this new SUV is expected to be based on the Bayon and could be offered with naturally aspirated petrol and CNG powertrain options. Speculations suggest that Hyundai might introduce its all-new 1.2L TGDi petrol engine in the Bayon, which will be hybrid-ready.
Kia Sonet Hybrid
The next-generation Kia Sonet is set to hit roads in 2027. The subcompact SUV will receive comprehensive changes inside and out along with a hybrid powertrain. However, the powertrain details are not available yet. The 2027 Kia Sonet will switch to an all-new platform, which will have a 20mm longer wheelbase than the existing architecture.
Renault Bridger Hybrid
The upcoming Renault Bridger subcompact SUV will feature rugged styling with an upright stance and high ground clearance. It will be built on Renault’s new RGMP platform, which supports multiple powertrains including ICE, hybrid, electric and CNG. The carmaker is likely to use a new 1.2L, four-cylinder turbo petrol engine for the Bridger.
