4 Upcoming Maruti 7-Seater Family Cars You Should Wait For


Aiming to reclaim its 50% market share, Maruti Suzuki India has planned launches of 28 new models, arriving by 2030-31. The lineup will be spread across over half a dozen powertrains, including petrol, CNG, EVs, hybrids, ethanol-powered and flex-fuel vehicles. Considering the strong demand for 7-seater family cars, the Indo-Japanese automaker is gearing up to launch four new models by 2027. Here’s a brief look at these upcoming 7-seater SUVs and MPVs.

Maruti Subcompact MPV (YDB)

Maruti Suzuki is reportedly working on a sub-4m MPV (codenamed YDB), which will be based on the Japan-spec Suzuki Spacia. While there is no official confirmation about its launch timeline, the compact family car is expected to arrive in late 2026. It’s expected to be sold via Maruti’s Nexa showrooms.

The design and styling of the Maruti YDB MPV will different from the Spacia, and it could miss out on some features such as sliding doors. However, the model is expected to retain the boxy and upright stance.

7-Seater Maruti Grand Vitara (Y17)

The 7-seater Maruti Grand Vitara (codenamed Y17) is currently in its testing phase, and expected to launch in the second half of 2026. The SUV will share several design elements, features, platform and powertrains with its 5-seater sibling, while also borrowing a few styling cues from the eVitara.

Compared to the standard model, it will be longer and more spacious to accommodate an additional row of seats. It’s expected to offer 1.5L naturally aspirated mild hybrid and strong hybrid powertrains, sourced from the 5-seater Grand Vitara.  

Maruti Electric MPV (YMC)

According to reports, Maruti Suzuki is working on an electric MPV expected to arrive in 2026 or 2027. Codenamed Maruti YMC, the model will be based on a born-EV architecture and is expected to share design elements and powertrain components with the Maruti eVitara.

Maruti Ertiga Facelift

Maruti Suzuki’s highly popular Ertiga MPV is now closer to its midlife update, which is expected to happen in the coming months. The new model is likely to receive subtle cosmetic changes and feature enhancements, while retaining the existing engine options.
