41 criminal cases registered by Koraput vigilance division in 2025

Koraput: Koraput vigilance division registered 41 criminal cases against 82 public servants, other public servants and private persons during 2025.Vigilance officials said the cases, registered between Jan and Dec, comprised 15 trap, 12 disproportionate assets and 14 miscellaneous cases. The accused included eight Group-A officers, 13 Group-B officers, 44 Group-C employees and 17 other public servants.During the year, 43 public servants were arrested and produced in court, said SP (Vigilance) Rabindra Kumar Panda. The division also filed chargesheets in 74 cases involving 168 public servants and private persons.In eight vigilance cases, the vigilance courts at Jeypore and Bhawanipatna delivered conviction orders against eight accused, the SP said.Vigilance officials reported substantial cash recoveries during searches conducted as part of the investigations. Cash amounting to Rs 2.08 crore was seized from the residence of Santanu Mohapatra, project director, Watershed, Malkangiri, while Rs 1.43 crore was recovered from the house of Rama Chandra Nepak, deputy ranger of Jeypore forest range, Panda said.Investigations into disproportionate assets cases also led to the detection of extensive movable and immovable properties. Dayanidhi Bag, project director, Watershed, Rayagada, was found to be in possession of 84 acres of land, including two farmhouses spread over 46 acres at Nabarangpur, two buildings, a flat in Bhubaneswar, deposits exceeding Rs 58 lakh and a benami car.Several officials were caught red-handed in trap cases during the year. Sushila Sabar, CDPO, Bisamcuttack, and Rama Chandra Patra, clerk-cum-accountant, were nabbed while accepting a bribe of Rs 80,000 for an appointment-related favour, the SP said. Renuka Pattanaik, anganwadi supervisor of Laxmipur block, was caught while taking Rs 50,000 to facilitate joining at an anganwadi centre.Harish Chandra Mohapatra, peon at the special treasury, Jeypore, was arrested while accepting Rs 47,000 to facilitate the release of arrear pension to a widow. Narasingh Dora, ASI of B. Singhpur police station, was nabbed while taking Rs 40,000 with an assurance not to arrest relatives in a domestic violence case. Sukuma Hansdah, IIC of Dasmantpur police station, was caught while accepting Rs 20,000 to submit a case diary in court, officials said.Emphasising the divisions resolve, Panda said vigilance operations would be further intensified and urged the public to come forward with information on corruption-related cases, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
