The Indian automobile market has witnessed a significant shift towards green mobility solutions in FY2026, driven by strong demand for EVs (electric vehicles) and hybrid vehicles. Toyota Kirloskar Motor currently dominates the hybrid segment with an 80% market share, followed by Maruti Suzuki and Honda Cars India. However, competition is set to intensify with the arrival of several new models from Honda, Renault, Kia, Maruti and Toyota.
The Honda ZR-V SUV is set to go on sale in India in July; however, its official launch date is yet to be announced. The model features a 2.0L direct-injection petrol engine benefited with Honda’s e strong technology, generating a combined power of 184PS and 315Nm of torque. The ZR-V offers a claimed fuel efficiency of 22.8kmpl.
The Renault Duster hybrid is scheduled to launch around the 2026 Diwali season. The SUV’s powertrain system consists of a 1.8L naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a 1.4kWh battery pack. The carmaker has already confirmed that the Duster hybrid has been sold out for 2026.
Kia India will introduce its first hybrid offering in India around Diwali festive season. Called the Kia Sorento, the three-row SUV is likely to debut with the brand’s new 1.5L strong hybrid powertrain. In global markets, however, the SUV is available with a more powerful 1.6L TGDi petrol hybrid powertrain.
Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Kirloskar Motor are currently testing the three-row versions of the Grand Vitara and Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUVs, respectively. While there is no official word on their launch timelines, both models are expected to debut in late 2026.
Similar to their 5-seater counterparts, the upcoming Maruti and Toyota 7-seater SUVs are likely to be offered with the 1.5L strong hybrid and 1.5L mild hybrid powertrain options. While the overall design, interior, features and components will be identical to the existing models, the three-row Grand Vitara and Hyryder will be longer, offer a more spacious cabin and accommodate an additional third row of seats.
