The Kia Seltos hybrid has finally entered the testing phase ahead of its global debut later this year. A semi-camouflaged test mule of the SUV was recently caught on camera during its test rounds in the European Alps. The hybrid version looks largely similar to the ICE-powered new Seltos, except for its newly-designed alloy wheels and ‘hybrid’ badging.

Hybrid Powertrain
In select European market, the Kia Seltos hybrid is already available with a 1.6L T-GDi petrol hybrid powertrain. The entire setup includes a 1.6L petrol engine, an electric motor, and a 1.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack. It delivers a combined power of 141PS and 265Nm of torque. Transmission duties are performed by a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
e-AWD In Global Markets
Some global versions of the Seltos hybrid are available with an electronic all-wheel drive (AWD) system, where an electric motor powers the rear wheels. As of now, there is no clarity on whether the India-spec version will be offered with e-AWD, 2WD or both configurations.
Furthermore, if reports are to be believed the India-spec Kia Seltos hybrid could feature the brand’s all-new strong hybrid powertrain based on the Kia’s proven 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine. The same hybrid powertrain could also debut in the next-generation Hyundai Creta, which is due for the next year.
Differentiating Features
The strong hybrid powertrain could be offered exclusively on the higher trims. In terms of features, the Seltos hybrid will be as well-equipped as its ICE counterpart. However, features such as Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, Kia’s Smart Regenerative Braking 3.0, Stay mode and a front-mounted speaker will differentiate the hybrid version from the ICE counterpart Seltos.
India Launch & Competition
In India, the Kia Seltos hybrid will go on sale sometime in 2027. When launched, it will take directly on the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder along with the upcoming Renault Duster hybrid and next-gen Hyundai Creta.
