Today Google Wallet is introducing a new feature in the US. Parents can set up a secure balance on Google Wallet for their kids and teens under 18. Once they do that, the kids and teens can tap to pay with Google Pay using their Android and Wear OS devices. Note that this only works through NFC, so online transactions are not supported.
This means there’s no need to get the kids or teens a card or anything like that – this is all inside Google Wallet. Parents have full control over their kids’ balance and activity through Family Link.
As a parent, you easily transfer money directly from your account, and “soon” you will be able to schedule automatic regular payments. You can also set spending limits and track your kids’ purchases in real-time. If needed, you can lock or unlock the kids’ balance instantly.
To get started, make sure your child is under 18 and has a supervised Google Account, and that you have a Family Group. Only the family manager can complete the setup for the child’s balance through Google Family Link or the Google Wallet website, while managing the kid’s balance can also be done by the other parent (if applicable).
