Google unveiled the Pixel 11 series smartphones a couple of days ago, with the Tensor G6 inside. While Google didn’t explicitly mention it anywhere, the Tensor G6 was widely believed to be a 2nm chip. Turns out that’s not the case.
Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold
This revelation comes from Google’s VP of Hardware, Peng Yu-Chun, who confirmed that the Tensor G6 inside all the Pixel 11 series smartphones is based on TSMC’s 3nm process. Last year’s Tensor G5 is also a 3nm chip.
Google Pixel 11 Pro XL
Even if the Tensor G6 was based on a 2nm process, it wouldn’t have been the first 2nm mobile chip. That crown goes to Samsung’s Exynos 2600 announced last December.

That said, while a 2nm process has its benefits, the 3nm Tensor G6 isn’t without its upgrades. Google says the Tensor G6 “delivers 50% more TPU compute and an upgraded CPU compute delivers up to 30% better power efficiency” compared to Tensor G5. How exactly that improves the real-world experience remains to be seen when we test the Pixel 11 series ourselves.
