Sri Lanka 284/10 in 79.4 Overs

India vs Sri Lanka Live Score: India’s spinners Manav Suthar and Ravindra Jadeja kept Sri Lanka under pressure as the hosts were bowled out for 284 on Day 3 of the first Test on Monday. Despite Sonal Dinusha’s maiden international hundred, India took a strong 178-run first-innings lead.

Suthar led the attack with 4/76, while Jadeja returned 3/57 as India’s bowlers recovered after Sri Lanka put up a strong fight in the second session.

Mohammed Siraj gave India an early breakthrough when Nishan Fernando edged an away-swinging delivery to Devdutt Padikkal at first slip.

Fernando, who had impressed for SLC XI in the warm-up game, could not deal with Siraj’s movement and bounce.

At 0/1, Sri Lanka were immediately under pressure.

Suthar then made an instant impact with his very first delivery.

The young left-arm spinner found a faint outside edge from veteran Dinesh Chandimal, with Rishabh Pant taking the catch behind the stumps.

Lahiru Udara and Kamindu Mendis briefly steadied Sri Lanka’s innings. Mendis even pulled Prasidh Krishna for a six, while Udara used the pull and cut shots to collect boundaries against Suthar.

But Suthar eventually got his reward. Udara attempted a loose shot and the ball went straight to Yashasvi Jaiswal at gully.

Suthar was particularly impressive because he managed to generate consistent turn while bowling above 85 kmph.

Mendis’ innings ended in unfortunate fashion. An uppish push against Kuldeep Yadav flew towards Shubman Gill, who completed a diving catch.

Jadeja then added another wicket to India’s tally by dismissing Sri Lankan captain Dhananjaya de Silva for 21.

The left-arm spinner got an edge from Dhananjaya, with Rahul taking the catch at slip.

With Suthar and Jadeja leading the spin attack, India remained firmly in control despite the resistance offered by Dinusha and Dickwella.
