Nothing OS 5.0 officially debuts, rollout detailed


Nothing OS 5.0, based on Android 17, will be released in open beta tomorrow, on August 26, at 11:00 BST (that’s 12:00 CEST, 13:00 EEST, and 15:30 in India).

It will initially only be available for the Nothing Phone (3). More devices will join “over the coming months”, starting with the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro in early September, the Phone (4a), Phone (3a) and (3a) Pro in late September, the Phone (2a) and (2a) Plus in mid-October, and the Phone (4b) in mid-December. The Phone (3a) Lite and CMF Phone 2 Pro won’t have an open beta program.

The general public release of Nothing OS 5.0 for the Nothing Phone (3) will be out in mid-October. Then, in early November, the Nothing Phone (4a), (4a) Pro, (3a), and (3a) Pro will get it, followed by the Nothing Phone (2a) and (2a) Plus in mid-November, the Phone (3a) Lite in late December, and the Phone (4b) and CMF Phone 2 Pro in mid-January next year.

There’s an overall visual refresh, a new system font, a redesigned Settings menu, a cleaner status bar, easier QR scanning in the camera app, new sort options in Gallery, a new default home screen theme with transparent widget details and subtle color tints on the icons, new clock faces and more color options for the lock screen, a dedicated Glyph app, more natural animations, faster Bluetooth controls, faster Essential Voice, MCP support in Essential Space, a new Essential Apps Builder app, separate notifications and Quick Settings, enhanced Quick Share, improved screen recording, live updates in the status bar, and improved Recents.
