2 New 7-Seater SUVs Launching Soon With Hybrid & EV Power

If you’re planning to buy a three-row SUV with hybrid or electric powertrain options, it might be worth waiting a little longer as two new models are set to hit roads soon. Kia India has confirmed that the Sorento premium three-row SUV will go on sale on September 4, while Tata Motors will introduce the Safari EV by October or November, 2026. Here’re all key details of these two upcoming 7-seater SUVs.

Kia Sorento

The Kia Sorento will come with two powertrain options – diesel and strong hybrid. The hybrid version will feature a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a battery pack. This setup delivers a maximum power of 238bhp and 380Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the diesel variant will use a 2.2-litre turbocharged engine. An AWD drivetrain will be available with both the strong hybrid and diesel powertrains.

In terms of pricing, the Kia Sorento hybrid is expected to cost around Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom), while the diesel variants will be priced aggressive below Rs 30 lakh. With two powertrain options and AWD, the new Kia 7-seater SUV will take on the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron and Jeep Meridian.

Tata Safari EV

Built on the Acti.ev+ platform, the Tata Safari EV is expected to share its powertrain with the Harrier EV, which is currently available with the 65kWh and 75kWh battery pack options. However, its range could be slightly lower than the Harrier EV due to its weight and larger body. The electric SUV will come with both RWD and AWD configuration options.

Only minimal EV-specific design changes will differentiate the Tata Safari EV from its ICE counterpart. It might get a new cabin scheme along with new trims and seat upholstery. In terms of features, the electric SUV will offer a large touchscreen, OTA updates, a 540-degree camera, auto park assist, Level 2 ADAS and more.
