vivo launched the X500, X500 Pro, and X500 Pro Max in China today, and the company has also unveiled OriginOS 7, the latest version of its skin, now built on top of Android 17.
OriginOS 7 brings a “smartly smooth experience” that’s “engineered across touch response, fluid motion, and peak-load performance”. It’s built to stay smooth even after six years of daily use. The goal with the development of OriginOS 7 was to make the usual interactions with your phone feel effortless.
The next-generation Origin Smooth Engine is baked in, providing “a comprehensive architectural redesign for graphics computation, memory management, and system scheduling”, while Ultra-Core Computing allocates processing resources dynamically based on where demand is highest, keeping the system responsive even during the most demanding scenarios.
vivo says OriginOS 7 has a 10% faster app cold start time and an 11% faster app page switching compared to its predecessor. Memory Fusion makes memory allocation and reclamation “dramatically more efficient”, resulting in “60% greater memory reclamation and up to 25GB of additional storage freed on a 256GB device”. With a new rendering pipeline, rendering efficiency has gone up by 14.4%.
In OriginOS 7 every “swipe, tap, and transition follows natural physics principles”, while Fluid Motion introduces “liquid-inspired dynamics that allow interface elements to stretch, bounce, and merge organically as they track the speed and direction of the finger”.
OriginOS 7 can pair to an Apple Watch and display notifications while “syncing essential workout and health data straight into the Origin Health app”. AirPods battery levels are shown in the Origin Island and there’s also support for Spatial Audio. vivo Office Kit remains available for iPad, macOS, and Windows users to connect their phones to their other devices, and stuff stored in iCloud is accessible within the vivo File Manager.
vivo’s Jovi, the cross-device personal agent, is integrated into OriginOS 7 and Office Kit. Jovi can coordinate tasks across connected phones and computers, and it also supports scheduled tasks. Every autonomous action Jovi takes is “explicitly recorded, fully transparent, and subject to direct user authorization for key steps”.
Finally, here are a few more new features: Wiggle Theme turns photos into interactive liquid surfaces that ripple, compress, and rebound to the touch; Glint Theme uses the gyro to cast realistic lights and shadows across wallpapers as the device tilts; StickIt lets you build “layered, dynamic collage compositions from photos and live photos” on your lock screen, home screen, and the Always-On Display; Pet Pals make your screen “come alive” with interactive pets that respond dynamically to device motion, charging states, music playback, and “the progression of day into night”.
OriginOS will be available today in a Preview Program (read: open beta) for the vivo X300 Pro and “select iQOO devices” in India, Thailand, and Malaysia.
