A couple of weeks or so ago, a rumor surfaced about Qualcomm still being in talks with Samsung about the latter’s 2nm process node, and possibly using Samsung Foundry to make some of the recently launched Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chips. That has not panned out, as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chips are made by TSMC just like most recent high-end Snapdragons.

However, a new report claims Qualcomm’s Senior Vice President and Head of Mobile Handsets, Chris Patrick, has confirmed that his company is “conducting in-depth work regarding Samsung’s 2nm process technology”, also calling what Qualcomm and Samsung have a “close partnership”, seemingly meaning to put it on par with the relationship with TSMC.

He mentioned that Samsung Foundry is “a long-standing core partner of Qualcomm and will remain an important partner in the future”, while also revealing that Qualcomm is “currently in the stage of understanding and evaluating” how to use Samsung’s 2nm technology for future products.

Patrick also praised Qualcomm’s relationship with Samsung Electronics (the maker of the Galaxy smartphones), stating that it is Qualcomm’s “strongest partner globally” in the mobile business, emphasizing that the two companies have an alliance built over decades.

Qualcomm has even worked together with Samsung towards the commercialization of LPDDR6 memory. The complexities of its introduction are being worked upon by engineering teams from both companies.
