Hazaribag: In a major breakthrough under the special drive launched on the instruction of Hazaribag SP Anjani Anjan, a police team apprehended four individuals involved in illegal opium trade near Charwa Dam under Pelawal Outpost in Hazaribag city on Thursday.Acting on a tip-off that a group of people were engaged in opium trading, a team led by ASP (Headquarters), Amit Kumar was despatched for crackdown. During the raid near Charwa Dam, the police spotted a truck parked near Kali Mandir. Soon, three motorcycles arrived and stopped near the truck.On seeing the police, the individuals tried to flee but the police chased and apprehended four suspects. They were identified as Sandeep Kumar, Md Zahid Alam, Md Sahjad alias Sonu and Manjeet Singh. The arrested individuals confessed their involvement in the illegal opium trade and revealed their plan was to transport it to Ludhiana, Punjab. The police also recovered 2.7 kg opium, three motorcycles, a six-wheeler and four mobile phones from the spot, said Kumar.
