3 New Midsize Electric SUVs From Maruti, Tata & Honda


The Indian electric vehicle (EV) market has been witnessing steady growth, thanks to government subsidies and the introduction of new and affordable products. In H1 FY2026 (April – September 2025), a total of 91,076 electric cars were sold compared to 43,847 units in the same month last year. It recorded 108 percent YoY growth. These figures are expected to shot up further as several new models are set to hit the roads in the coming years.

India’s three top carmakers – Maruti Suzuki, Tata and Honda – are targeting the midsize electric SUV segment with the e Vitara, Sierra EV and 0 Alpha, respectively. The Maruti e Vitara is likely to go on sale in December 2025, while the Tata Siera EV might arrive in January 2026. Honda will be little late to the party with plans to launch the Honda 0 Alpha electric SUV in 2027. Let’s take a look at the key details of these upcoming electric SUVs.

Maruti e Vitara

Maruti e Vitara

Based on an all-new skateboard EV platform, the Maruti e Vitara will be offered with two battery options – 40kWh and 61kWh. The dual motor and AWD (AllGrip-e) system will be exclusively available with the larger battery pack. Maruti Suzuki will source these batteries from the world’s leading EV maker – BYD. While the official specifications will be revealed closer to its launch, the e Vitara is claimed to offer a driving range of over 500km on a full charge.

Tata Sierra EV

Tata Motors will introduce the ICE-powered Sierra on 25th November, 2025, followed by its electric iteration will arrive in early 2026. The Sierra EV might come with the 65kWh and 75kWh LFP battery options, borrowed from the Harrier EV. Its range is expected to be over 500km on a single charge. The overall design and styling of the electric Sierra will be similar to its ICE counterpart. In fact, its cabin layout and feature list will largely be the same. However, a few EV-specific badges and software updates are expected.

Honda 0 Alpha

Honda 0 Alpha India Launch

The Japanese automaker plans to begin its EV journey in India with the 0 Alpha electric SUV, which recently made its global debut in its concept form. It will be brought to India via the CBU route, and positioned against the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6 and MG ZS. While Honda hasn’t yet revealed its powertrain details, it’s expected to feature a battery pack between 65kWh – 75kWh. The Honda 0 Alpha is expected to be priced around Rs 25 lakh for the base variant and nearly Rs 30 lakh for the top-end variant.
