JSW Motors Limited, the passenger vehicle manufacturing arm of the JSW Group, plans to introduce its first vehicle in India under a partnership with China-based Jetour, an automotive brand owned by Chery Automobile. Jetour has a strong focus on SUVs including ICE, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and EV models. Its global product portfolio consists of diverse SUVs such as T2, X70 series, X95, Dashing and more. In India, JSW Motors and Jetour will introduce a rebadged version of the Jetour T2 SUV.
The upcoming Jetour T2 will be assembled at JSW’s new greenfield manufacturing plant in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra. This facility will also produce future battery electric vehicles, EVs, and plug-in hybrids. While the official launch timeline of the T2 SUV is yet to be announced, it’s expected to arrive in the third quarte of 2026 (possibly around Diwali season).
India-bound Jetour T2 SUV – What to Expect?
Longer Than Several 7-Seater SUVs
Interestingly, despite being a 5-seater SUV, the T2 measures 4,785mm in length, making it longer than the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Tata Safari, and Hyundai Alcazar. Its overall width and height stand at 2006mm and 1880mm, respectively. The T2 has a wheelbase of 2,800mm and a ground clearance of 220mm.
Powertrain Options
Based on a monocoque frame, the new JSW SUV will be introduced with a 1.5L plug-in hybrid powertrain. While exact performance figures for the India-bound model are remain under wraps, the global-spec version delivers a maximum power of 156PS and 220Nm of torque.
In China, the SUV is available in two variants – 2WD dual-motor hybrid and AWD tri-motor hybrid. The dual motor setup offers power worth 224PS and 390Nm of torque, while the tri motor configuration is good enough for 462PS and 700Nm. The SUV comes with a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission, and offers multiple operating modes – Pure Electric Drive, Series-Parallel Hybrid and Engine-Only Range Extender.
