The new-generation Toyota Fortuner has finally entered its testing phase, and its first test mule has been spotted in Thailand. The prototype was heavily camouflaged; however, a few details were visible including wider stance, revised rear bumper and redesigned taillamps. The rear profile appears more upright and squared-off than the current model.
New Platform & Design
More details are yet to be revealed. However, the new Toyota Fortuner is likely to switch to the updated IMV ladder-frame platform, borrowed from the new Hilux. The SUV is expected to carry the brand’s new ‘future-focussed’ design language, and might derive most of its design elements from the next-gen Toyota Hilux pickup truck.

Tech Upgrades
It would be quite early to comment on the complete feature list. However, the new Toyota Fortuner might come with a new 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with latest-generation software, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, updated OTA (over-the-air) updates.
ADAS & More
If reports are to be believed, Toyota could equip the new Fortuner with an ADAS suite called Toyota Safety Sence 3. Features such as a premium audio system, wireless charger, height adjustable headrests, rear centre armrest, multiple Type C USB charging ports, a multi terrain monitor and an electronic parking brake with auto hold might also be on offer.
Multiple Powertrains
Globally, the new Toyota Fortuner will be offered with multiple powertrain options including hybrid. In India, the SUV lineup is likely to come with petrol, diesel and mild hybrid powertrains. Hybrid and electric variants might join the lineup at a later stage.
Launch Timeline
As of now, there is no official word on its India launch timeline. However, the new-gen Toyota Fortuner is expected to make global debut in H2, 2026, followed by its India launch in late 2026 or early 2027.
A Look at its Journey So Far
The Toyota Fortuner was first introduced in India in August 2009. Since its market arrival, the SUV has received multiple midlife updates and a full generation change in late 2016. The introduction of the mild hybrid powertrain was the latest major update made to the lineup. The Fortuner has always been admired for its massive road presence, strong diesel performance, off-road capabilities, and high resale value.
