Oppo unveils new A6 phone with 7,000mAh battery, A6s, A6i+ and A6v also launch

Oppo has a large number of devices named “A6” already, but it can always add more – and it just did, adding four more new models. It would have been nice if it gave them unique names, but there are only so many letters and numbers available… or something.

So here is the Oppo A6. No, not this Oppo A6. This new phone (model number PLS120) is slightly smaller with a 6.57” 1080p+ AMOLED display – this is a higher quality panel than the 6.75” 720p+ IPS LCD of the global version. The new panel also features an under display fingerprint reader (optical), which replaces the side-mounted one.

The standout feature of both A6 models is the massive 7,000mAh battery – this new version even does 80W SuperVOOC charging and 44W PPS (up from 45W SuperVOOC and 33W PPS on the global A6).

The phone is still powered by the Dimensity 6300 and is available in 8/256GB, 12/256GB and 12/512GB configurations (LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage). A microSD slot is available. The phone has advanced water resistance with IP68 and IP69 ratings, though so did the global A6.

The phone has a 50MP rear camera and a 2MP helper like before, but the selfie camera was bumped up to 16MP (up from 8MP). That said, the cameras are still capped at 1080p @ 60fps.

Next up is the Oppo A6s. No, not this Oppo A6s. Strangely, this one is kind of the reverse of the A6 above – it uses the same basic 6.75” 720p+ LCD as the global A6s model, however, it downgrades the selfie camera from 16MP to 8MP and offers slower 45W SuperVOOC charging for its 7,000mAh battery (down from 80W on the global model A6s).

The Dimensity 6300 chipset is the same as before, though with more generous memory configs available: 8/256GB and 12/256GB (LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage). And it keeps the microSD slot.

So, how is this new Oppo A6s different from the global A6-no-s? Well… you see… we’re sure that someone at Oppo knows the answer. And we’re not done yet.

The Oppo A6i+ is a new combination of letters and numbers, but not a new combination of features. In fact, it’s the global A6 again, which as mentioned above is the same as the new A6s. In fact, the A6s and A6i+ share the same model number: PLT120.

Then there is the Oppo A6v, another new letter and number combo and a new model number too: PLT130. It is different from the A6s/A6i+ – it has a 5MP selfie camera (instead of 8MP), a smaller 6,500mAh battery with 45W SuperVOOC charging (vs. 7,000mAh) and a lower IP64 rating. That said, it is not a new model as it is essentially same as the A6t.
