NOIDA: An 18-year-old youth shot himself with his father’s licensed pistol at his home in Noida’s Badalpur area on Saturday evening, police said. Before taking his own life, the teenager reportedly deleted all data from his mobile phone and damaged his laptop.The deceased has been identified as Devkaran Rawal, a resident of Dhoommanikpur village in Greater Noida. He was a Class 12 student at the NTPC school in Dadri. He is survived by his parents and a younger brother, who is specially abled (divyang). His grandfather is a retired Army personnel who now farms in the village, while his father is a farmer and also works in property dealing.Amit Bhadana, the Station House Officer (SHO) for Badalpur, said that the police were notified of the incident by a hospital at approximately 4:00 pm on Saturday. A police team was dispatched immediately, where they learned the boy had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The body has since been sent for a post-mortem examination.“Initial investigations suggest the deceased went to his room on the first floor while his parents were downstairs,” SHO Bhadana said. “The victim first deleted his mobile data and smashed his laptop before using his father’s licensed pistol. Upon hearing the gunshot, his parents rushed upstairs to find him lying on the floor. Neighbours gathered at the scene after hearing the family’s distress calls.”The teenager was rushed to a nearby private hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Although police conducted a thorough search of the room, no suicide note was discovered.A senior police officer noted that the father’s licensed pistol was typically kept in a wardrobe. The parents were reportedly unaware of when or how the teenager had accessed the weapon. Authorities are currently examining the deceased’s social media accounts to establish a possible motive.
