True off-road SUVs are still a rare breed in the Indian market. Most of them are built on a ladder-frame or body-on-frame chassis, ensuring higher structural strength, higher payload and towing capabilities and better performance on rough terrains. The off-road SUVs also feature a proper 4X4 drivetrain system with low-range transfer case, strong suspension articulation, higher ground clearance, multiple terrain models and several other off-road focus components.
If you’re looking for a true off-road SUV, it might be worth waiting a little longer, as four new models are set to launch or debut this year. Take a look at the key details of these upcoming off-road SUVs.
MG Majestor

MG Majestor recently made its India debut, while its prices will be announced in April 2026. Bookings for the SUV are already underway and deliveries will begin in May. Under the hood, the Majestor features a 2.0L twin-turbo diesel engine paired with an 8-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. This setup delivers a maximum power of 215bhp and 478Nm of torque. It comes with on-demand 4WD system, 10 terrain modes and the ‘M-Crawl’ function. The SUV has a water wading capacity of up to 810mm.
Mahindra Scorpio N/Scorpio Classic Facelifts

The Mahindra Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic are set to receive midlife updates in the coming months. Both SUVs are expected to come with slightly improved styling and a few new features, while retaining their existing engine setups. The 4WD drivetrain system will continue to be available with the diesel engine only. The SUV will offer three drive modes – Zip, Zap and Zoom.
New-Gen Toyota Fortuner

The new-generation Toyota Fortuner will make its global debut in late 2026 with its India launch expected around the time of its world premiere or in early 2027. The SUV will underpin the updated IMV ladder-frame chassis, borrowed from the new Hilux. The new Fortuner’s design is expected to be heavily inspired by the new Hilux pickup truck, and it’s also likely to come with an ADAS suite. In India, the SUV might continue to be offered with the existing 2.7L petrol and 2.8L diesel engine options.
