Honda 0 Alpha SUV Testing Begins in India – Launch, Battery & More

Honda Cars India has started pan-India testing of the Honda 0 α (Alpha) electric SUV, which was first unveiled in its concept avatar at the Japan Mobility Show last year. It will be the first BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) offering from the Japanese automaker in India.

The carmaker says that the testing programme will evaluate the vehicle across a wide range of Indian driving conditions, including highways, city roads, and challenging terrains.

The Honda 0 α will be manufactured at the carmaker’s Tapukara facility in Rajasthan, catering to both domestic and global markets. The company has planned nearly Rs 12,00 crore investment plan for EV production. India and Japan will be among the first markets to witness its launch, which is planned for FY2026-27.

Design Highlights

The Honda 0 α SUV concept was said to preview the near-production model, featuring the brand’s ‘Thin, Light and Wise’ design language. Similar to the concept, the final version is likely to retain upright and wide stance along with a uniquely designed front grille with an illuminated Honda logo, sharply raked front windscreen, aero-optimized 19-inch alloy wheels and prominent wheel arches.

Other design elements are expected to include a side-mounted charging port,  apronounced vertical rear windscreen, full-width U-shaped taillamps and rear bumper with a faux bash plate.

Cabin Space & Battery Options

Interior and powertrain details of the Honda 0 α SUV are still under the wraps. However, a company official has revealed that the SUV will have a wheelbase of around 2,700mm – 2,800mm, which will help maximise cabin space.

The electric SUV will be offered with two LFP (lithium Iron Phosphate) battery pack options. While the exact figures are yet to be revealed, the battery capacity is likely to range between 65kWh – 75kWh.

Expected Price & Competition

When launched, the Honda 0 Alpha SUV will compete against the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, Maruti e Vitara, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV and the upcoming Toyota E-bella. Prices of the EV are expected to start around Rs 25 lakh for the entry-level trim.
