Launched in early 2023, the Maruti Fronx gained instant popularity due to its compact yet SUV-ish styling, features, practicality, fuel efficiency and affordable pricing. Except for minor price hikes and the addition of six airbags as standard, the compact crossover hasn’t received any major update so far. However, the carmaker has planned three significant updates for the Fronx, which are expected to arrive between 2026-2027.
Unveiled at the last year’s Japan Mobility Show, the Maruti Fronx flex-fuel version is likely to make its way to India in 2026. The compact crossover is expected to receive Maruti Suzuki’s in-house developed strong hybrid powertrain along with an ADAS (autonomous driving assistance system) suite by 2026 or 2027. The official launch timeline for these upgrades has not yet been revealed. Here’s a brief look at these upcoming updates.
Maruti Fronx Flex Fuel

The showcased model features neon body graphics while retaining its original design and silhouette. Its powertrain details are still under the wraps; however, it’s expected to feature either a 1.2L or 1.5L flex-fuel compatible engine developed by Maruti Suzuki.
Maruti Fronx Hybrid
The Fronx will be the first Maruti Suzuki model to feature the brand’s in-house developed series strong hybrid powertrain. It’s expected to feature a 1.2L Z-series petrol engine (Z12E), which will act as a generator, while an electric motor will drive the wheels. The battery pack size is likely to be between 1.5kWh – 2kWh, which will store energy and delivers it to motor. According to media reports, the compact crossover might offer a fuel efficiency around 35kmpl, making it the most fuel efficiency SUV in the country.
Maruti Fronx ADAS
The updated Fronx test mule has been spotted testing multiple times with LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensors, indicating the addition of an ADAS (autonomous driver assistance system) suite. It will become the most affordable Maruti Suzuki model to feature ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, autonomous emergency braking, rear cross traffic alert and more.
