Upcoming Kia 7-Seater SUV (MQ4i)


Kia has planned an all-new three-row SUV for the Indian market, which will sit above the Seltos in the company’s product lineup. Codenamed MQ4i, the upcoming Kia 7-seater SUV is expected to be based on the globally available Sorento, which comes with multiple powertrain options. While official launch timeline is yet to be revealed, it’s expected to arrive sometime in 2027.

In terms of pricing and positioning, the Sorento-based SUV will rival Mahindra XUV 7XO, Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and Hyundai Alcazar. However, the upcoming 7-seater versions of the Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder, equipped with strong hybrid powertrain, are likely to be its direct competitors in the segment. Kia’s Anantapur manufacturing facility will be used to produce this upcoming model.

Localized Hybrid Powertrain

The new Kia three-row SUV will share its platform with the Sorento; however, it’s expected to feature a new nameplate and a different powertrain. According to reports, the carmaker is likely to electrified its tried-and-tested 1.5L petrol engine, which will be paired with a small lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor.

Thise localized hybrid powertrain will help the carmaker achieve competitive pricing. Transmission options could include an e-CVT or a DCT. The SUV might come with FWD (front-wheel drive) system, while the AWD (all-wheel drive) could be offered in higher trims.

Globally, the Sorento is available with four powertrain options – a 230bhp, 1.6L turbo petrol hybrid, a 261bhp, 1.6L plug-in hybrid, a 191bhp, 2.5L turbo petrol and a 202bhp, 2.2L diesel.

Premium Interior & Features

Considering its premium positioning, the new Kia 7-seater SUV is expected to be packed with several advanced tech including Level-2 ADAS, connected car tech, OTA updates, a panoramic sunroof, dual screen setup, ventilated front and rear seats, captain seats, premium audio system, multiple airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, and more.
