Volkswagen India had announced its plan to launch five products across all four quarters of 2026. The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is already on sale, while the VW Taigun and Virtus facelifts are expected to arrive in the coming months. Besides these models, the German automaker is also gearing up entry the highly competitive sub-4 metre SUV segment, possibly by mid-2027.
The upcoming Volkswagen subcompact SUV is expected to share platform, engine options and features with the Skoda Kylaq. Once launched, it will face challenge from cars like Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Maurti Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet.
Volkswagen Subcompact SUV – What to Expect?

As of now, there is no official word on the product. However, Volkswagen’s derivative of the Kylaq is expected to have a different variant nomenclature and distribution strategy. Reports suggest the lineup might include a sportier GT Line trim featuring blacked-out treatment.
Visually, it will not resemble the Skoda Kylaq, and is expected to feature Volkswagen’s familiar design language. The VW SUV could borrow several styling elements from its elder siblings including the Taigun and Tayron SUVs.
The feature list is expected to similar to the Kylaq, which includes a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, In-car connectivity suite, ventilated front seats, rear parking camera, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear AC vents, TPMS, multiple airbags, and more.
The new Volkswagen subcompact SUV is likely to derive power from a 1.0L, three-cylinder TSI petrol engine, borrowed from the Kylaq. This turbocharged and direct-injection motor produces a maximum power of 115bhp and 178Nm of torque in the Kylaq. Transmission choices could include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic unit.
Official details about the new VW sub-4 metre SUV are expected to be revealed in near future. Stay tuned for further details.
