Koraput: Commuters at the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) bus terminus in Jeypore were left stranded and fuming on Saturday after services on several routes were abruptly cancelled, reportedly because of the corporation’s failure to clear pending diesel bills. The disruption triggered chaos at the bus stand. Many of the passengers, who had arrived early for long-distance travel, got to know at the last minute that buses on Jeypore-Cuttack (via Rayagada), Jeypore-Cuttack (via Srikakulam), Jeypore-Sorada, Jeypore-Phulbani, Jeypore-Kamaladiha and Jeypore-Parvatipuram routes would not operate. Advance bookings for these routes were cancelled, leaving many in the lurch.Eyewitnesses reported scenes of confusion and distress, with families, elderly passengers and daily commuters scrambling for information and exploring costly private transport options. The absence of prior notice or alternative arrangements exposed serious lapses in coordination and crisis management by the OSRTC.“I had to travel to Cuttack for an urgent medical appointment, but after reaching here, I was told the bus wouldn’t operate. This is sheer negligence,” said Ramesh Pradhan, a passenger waiting since early morning.Another commuter, Sasmita Nayak, voiced her frustration, saying, “I was travelling to Parvatipuram for a family function. Now, I have to spend extra on private transport. This is harassment.”Sources said the crisis arose after the authorised petrol pump, which supplies fuel to OSRTC buses in Jeypore, refused to provide diesel due to non-payment of outstanding dues, forcing the suspension of services.Repeated attempts to contact DTM OSRTC (Jeypore) Aroshree Sahoo for response went unanswered.
