Fertiliser support: Cabinet clears Rs 41,534 crore nutrient-based subsidy for Kharif 2026; DAP price kept unchanged

The Union Cabinet has approved a nutrient-based subsidy (NBS) of Rs 41,534 crore for the Kharif 2026 season, aimed at insulating farmers from global price volatility and ensuring affordable fertiliser availability.The government reiterated its commitment to shield farmers from fluctuations in international fertiliser prices, particularly amid elevated global rates due to Middle East crisis since the Covid period.Official statement noted that di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) prices have surged to unaffordable levels in global markets recently. To protect farmers, the government has decided to keep DAP prices unchanged at Rs 1,350 per 50 kg bag.The approved subsidy will be applicable to phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilisers and will remain in force for the Kharif season period from April 1, 2026 to September 30, 2026.(The story will be updated)
