Huawei Pura 90 Pro Max unveiled with 200MP 4x telephoto, Pura 90 Pro tags along


Huawei’s Pura 90 series is now official, with the Pura 90 Pro and Pura 90 Pro Max ushering in a new era for Huawei’s flagship lineup. Both bring updated looks with eye-catching gradient color schemes, which is a bit of a throwback to the Huawei P30 series. And as usual with flagship Huawei phones, you get top-tier camera hardware.

Pura 90 Pro Max is headlined by a massive 1/1.28-inch periscope telephoto sensor of 200MP resolution with f/2.6 aperture. This is a 96 mm equivalent module with 4x optical zoom, which Huawei claims can deliver sustained detail preservation even in challenging light conditions. It also benefits from CIPA 7.0 image stabilization (7-stop stabilization).

Pura 90 Pro Max is also the first Huawei phone with a Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor (LOFIC) sensor used on its 50MP RYYB main shooter. It supports a 10-stop variable f/1.4-4.0 aperture and OIS. The third module on the back of the Pura 90 Pro Max is a 40MP ultrawide with an f/2.2 aperture.

Pura 90 Pro offers a 50MP RYYB main cam with a 1/1.28” sensor size, an f/1.4-f/4.0 variable aperture and OIS. It also gets a 50MP telephoto with an f/2.1 aperture and a 4x optical zoom. The third module is a 12.5MP ultrawide.

Elsewhere, both phones feature Huawei’s in-house Kirin 9030S chipset, which Huawei claims can deliver 200% image NPU capabilities as well as varying AI ISP gains. Despite the difference in size, both Pura 90 Pro models feature 6,000 mAh batteries, which support 100W wired and 80W wireless charging.

They also ship with the latest HarmonyOS 6.1 build, complete with a native agentic AI assistant, as well as AI image editing and object removal tools.

Pura 90 Pro gets a 6.6-inch LTPO OLED while the Pro Max extends to 6.9 inches. Both offer FHD+ resolution, a 1-120Hz variable refresh rate and 2nd gen scratch-resistant Kunlun glass. Both feature 13MP front-facing cameras and side-mounted fingerprint scanners. They are also IP68/69 rated against water and dust.

Pura 90 Pro comes in Pink Guava, Orange Soda, Coconut White, and Mulberry Black colors. The baseline 12/256GB trim starts at CNY 5,499 ($806).

Pura 90 Pro Max comes in Orange Ocean, Sunset Purple, Emerald Lake, Dawn Gold, and Obsidian Black colors. It starts at CNY 6,499 ($953) for the 12/256GB trim.

Open sales in China are scheduled for April 29. Huawei did not detail plans for a global rollout just yet.
