Hyundai India has confirmed two new SUVs for the Indian market, slated to arrive during the current financial year. The announcement was made at the brand’s investor presentation for FY2025-2026. Tarun Garg, CEO of Hyundai India, said that the company aims to strengthen its market in the midsize SUV segment and compact electric SUV segments with brand-new nameplates.
Hyundai expects both upcoming Hyundai SUVs to significantly increase its sales and help it stay competitive against Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra.

New Hyundai Midsize SUV
The new Hyundai midsize will reportedly be based on the Bayon, which is already on sale in Europe, Middle East and select Central Asian and North African countries. The global-spec model measures 4,180mm in length, 1,775mm in width and 1,500mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,580mm. The Bayon-based SUV will be sold alongside the Creta. Hyundai appears to adopting a product strategy similar to Maruti Suzuki, which introduced the Victoris to expand its portfolio.
Earlier reports suggested that the Bayon-based SUV will tale on the Maruti Fronx. However, it now appears that the carmaker will position this model to compete with the Kia Seltos, Maruti Victoris and Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Tata Sierra and Honda Elevate.
New 1.2L Turbo Petrol Engine?
If reports are to be believed, the new Hyundai midsize SUV (Bayon-based) could debut with the brand’s all-new locally-developed 1.2L TGDi petrol engine. This engine will be more compact and fuel efficient than the Creta’s 1.5L turbo petrol engine that’s good enough for 160bhp and 253Nm. The new 1.2L turbo-petrol engine will be hybrid ready, and power the brand’s future compact models to be priced between Rs 15 lakh – Rs 20 lakh.
New Hyundai EV SUV

Codenamed HE1i, the upcoming Hyundai compact electric SUV could be based on the Inster EV. It will be based on the scalable E-GMP platform, which supports 800V high speed charging and offers a driving range of over 500km.
In global markets, the Inster EV is available with two battery pack options – 42kWh Standard Range and 49kWh Long Range. While the former delivers a claimed WLTP range of 300km, the latter offers 355km per charge.
The new Hyundai EV SUV will compete against the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV.
