Jeep, the SUV brand owned by Stellantis, has been struggling in India. The company gained momentum after the arrival of the Jeep Compass in 2017. However, its sales have consistently declined, witnessing a sharp fall over the last few years. Jeep’s current product portfolio in India includes four SUVs – the Compass, Meridian, Wrangler and Grand Cherokee. The company has no presence in the high-volume subcompact and midsize SUV segments.

New Jeep SUV India Launch In 2028

Aiming to strengthen its presence in the Indian market, Parent company Stellantis has confirmed a new Jeep SUV, which is slated to arrive in 2028. Interestingly, the upcoming Jeep SUV will be built on a platform sourced from Tata Motors.

Furthermore, both carmakers have agreed to share manufacturing facility for domestic as well as export markets. With this move, Stellantis aims to achieve better economies of scale in production, and expand exports to 50 countries. The information was shared by company officials during the Stellantis Group’s 2026 Investor Day presentation.

Grégoire Olivier, Head of Asia Pacific region at Stellantis, India, said, Tata Motors has been a Stellantis partner for more than 20 years and will provide a highly competitive platform to develop a new Jeep car that will be developed in India, assembled in India, in our Stellantis Tata JV in India for the world. The upcoming Jeep model is expected to become one of five globally-oriented products Stellantis is developing in Asia using local partnerships and lower-cost engineering ecosystems.”

Tata Sierra’s ARGOS Platform For New Jeep SUV?

The carmaker hasn’t yet revealed further details. However, speculations suggest that the upcoming new Jeep SUV might share the ARGOS (All-Terrain Ready, Omni-Energy and Geometry Scalable Architecture) platform with the Tata Sierra.

The ARGOS architecture supports multiple powertrains including petrol, diesel, hybrid and CNG. It’s also AWD-ready, which will allow the new Jeep SUV to retain the brand’s off-road DNA.
