New Hyundai 1.2L Turbo Engine For Bayon & Next-Gen Creta Hybrid

Hyundai is developing an all-new 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine that’s said to be designed for delivering high fuel efficiency and supporting electrified technologies. It’s expected to debut in the India-bound Bayon-based compact SUV in the second half of 2026. The new 1.2L turbo petrol hybrid powertrain could become Hyundai’s main hybrid engine for compact and midsize SUVs including the next-generation Creta.

According to reports, Hyundai’s new 1.2L TGDi engine will be more compact and fuel efficient than the Creta’s existing 160bhp, 1.5L turbo petrol engine. While the exact performance figures are still under the wraps, it’s expected to offer better torque and drivability than Venue’s 1.0L petrol engine that’s good enough for 120bhp and 172Nm.
