The ninth-generation Toyota Hilux now finally has an India launch date – July 28, 2026. The pickup truck comes with significantly improved styling, a more upmarket interior and an electric powertrain for global markets. In India, however, the new 2026 Toyota Hilux is expected to retain the existing 2.8L diesel engine with 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox options. This oil burner delivers a peak power of 204bhp and 500Nm of torque.
Mild Hybrid & EV Powertrains
Toyota Kirloskar Motor might also introduce the 2.8L diesel engine with a 48 mild hybrid system, which is already available in the Fortuner Neo Drive. Meanwhile, the global-spec Hilux EV features a 59.2kWh battery pack paired with a dual-motor setup. To retain cabin space, Toyota has positioned the battery pack underneath the rear seat.
Off-Roading Capabilities
The new 2026 Toyota Hilux offers a payload capacity of 1 tonne and a towing capacity of up to 3,500kg. Its water wading depth capability is 700mm. Further enhancing its off-road capabilities is Toyota’s new Multi-Terrain Select system.
