Xiaomi will unveil the Redmi Note 17 series on July 14 (Tuesday). The company offered a few details on the two upcoming models, vanilla and Pro. For example, the Pro model will have Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on the front and an IP69K rating for dust and water resistance.
This is the focus of a new teaser video – just how tough is the Redmi Note 17 Pro? In the spirit of the World Cup, several Pros get mounted on a robotic arm that acted as a goalkeeper and successfully deflected multiple penalty shots. That part is not entirely in accordance with football rules, but the phones got shelled with nuts and even got hit with a durian for good measure.
Then comes the more impressive part – can the phone survive the powerful jet of water coming out of a firefighter’s hose? The video demonstrates that the jet can smash through windows and even push a car. Hit play on the video below to see what it did to the phone (which is rated IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K, by the way).
A group shot of the Redmi Note 17 and 17 Pro revealed that the vanilla model will have a single camera on its back (rumored to be a 50MP unit). The Pro, meanwhile, will have two cameras (one of which is said to have a 200MP sensor, but that hasn’t been officially confirmed). You can find more leaked specs for the two phones here.
Redmi Note 17 Pro in Clear Blue
The Redmi Note 17 was recently certified for the global market alongside a seemingly identical device under the Poco brand. Whether the global model is identical to the Chinese one remains to be seen. The same goes for whether the Pro model will be available outside of China.
