JSW MG Motor India is set to expand its product portfolio with an all-new three-row electric SUV in August 2027. Interestingly, it will be the first production model to be based on the brand’s recently-unveiled ADAPT (Advanced Drive Architecture Platform Technology) platform, which supports strong hybrid, electric, plug-in hybrid and range-extender hybrid powertrains. The upcoming MG electric SUV will be based on the Wuling Eksion/Starlight 560 and will be positioned against the Mahindra XEV 9S in India.
Electric Powertrain
According to a report, the new MG EV will feature a 69kWh battery pack and a 210bhp, single electric motor. It will deliver a range of around 600km on a full charge. It’s arch rival, the Mahindra XEV 9S is currently available with three battery pack options – 59kWh, 70kWh and 79kWh – delivering claimed range of 521km, 600km and 679km, respectively.
Dimensions & Seating Arrangement
Dimensionally, the new MG electric SUV is expected to measure 4,745mm in length, 1,850mm in width and 1,755mm in height. It will sit on the 2,810mm long wheelbase. Compared to the Mahindra XEV 9S, the Wuling Eksion based MG SUV will be slightly shorter and narrower.
The cabin layout could be identical to the Eksion, featuring a 2+3+2 seating configuration. It will have two individual seats in the first row, three person bench seat in the second row and two individual seats in the third-row seats.
Plug-in Hybrid Might Launch By 2026 Diwali
JSW MG Motor India might also introduce the PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) version of the Wuling Eksion/Starlight 560 around Diwali 2026. Globally, the SUV is offered with a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine mated to an electric motor (producing 195bhp and 230Nm) and a 20.5kWh battery pack. This setup delivers a combined power of 197bhp and 230Nm of torque. The plug-in hybrid version delivers a claimed electric-only range of 125km and a combined range of up to 1,100km.
Expected Price
The new MG electric SUV is expected to be priced around Rs 20 lakh for the base variant, with the top-spec version likely to cost close to Rs 25 lakh. For reference, the Mahindra XEV 9S is currently available within the price range of Rs 19.95 lakh and Rs 29.45 lakh (ex-showroom).
