Apple’s smart speaker with a display, which a lot of people have been calling HomePad, but which has also been referred to as Home Hub, is coming soon, apparently – later this year, in fact.
The latest macOS 26.7 beta has basically confirmed the HomePad (not the name, though), and now a deeper dive into the code tells us that while the HomePad will run a variant of tvOS, it will behave more like a giant Apple Watch.
Its home screen will feature “Faces” and a “Face Gallery”. So, like “watch faces” then, but not on a watch. In fact you can think of these just like Apple Watch faces, but bigger. They will be customizable with different widgets and Smart Stacks. iPhone app widgets can also be added to the HomePad.
As a privacy feature, the HomePad will only display your personal information in the widgets if your iPhone is nearby. According to the code, Apple will launch the HomePad in two versions, one with a speaker base and the other intended to be wall-mounted.
