Apple’s self-developed AI server chip expected to enter mass production this year

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been the buzzword for the past few years, and many businesses have tried to cash in on that trend. This has led tech companies to increase their investments in infrastructure upgrades to keep up with demand. While Apple was slow to jump on the AI bandwagon, it’s now reported to be starting mass production of its own AI server chip this year.

The word comes from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said Apple’s self-developed AI server chip is expected to enter mass production in the second half of 2026, while the tech giant’s own data centers are expected to begin construction and operation in 2027.

Apple’s M5 chip, introduced last October, powers the Vision Pro (M5, 2025), among other products.

Considering this timeline, Kuo says Apple anticipates significant growth in on-device AI demand in 2027.

We don’t have technical details about Apple’s AI server chip yet, but Apple beginning its mass production this year is certainly interesting news, as Apple silicon’s performance on iPhones and other Apple products has been impressive.
