This week, Samsung unveiled its next generation foldables, which included the first wide foldable in Europe (the Huawei Pura X Max never did launch on the Old Continent). The company is also launching a pair of new smartwatches. Currently, the foldables and watches are on pre-order – open sales start in early August. Here are some of the offers we found for the new models.

There are no offers from Amazon on the Galaxy Z Fold8 or the Z Fold8 Ultra. However, there is a €50 coupon for the Galaxy Z Flip8 for some reason. By the way, there are no free storage upgrades this time around. You should also check out Samsung Germany, which offers a €100 discount with code PAYPAL8 (and payment through PayPal, of course).
Samsung also refreshed its smartwatches – after two years, the Galaxy Watch Ultra finally got a sequel and there is a new vanilla Galaxy Watch too (but there is no Classic in this generation). Check out our hands-on review for more details on the new 800mAh battery on the Watch Ultra2, the new Snapdragon Wear Elite chipset and other improvements. Samsung has created three watch bands for each model, each intended for a different use case (e.g. diving, running, etc.). You get a band with the watch itself, but you also have a small discount if you want a second band.
While the Z Flip7 has disappeared from store shelves, the Galaxy Z Fold7 is still around. Compared to the Z Fold8 Ultra, you miss out on the battery upgrade – the new model has a 5,000mAh battery, up from 4,400mAh on this one. And it has faster wired (45W vs. 25W) and wireless charging (20W vs. 15W). The dimensions are essentially the same (the new one is a tad thinner when opened, but it’s still 8.9mm when closed). They weigh the same too.
The new model has a fancy new Flex Titanium structure, which promises to be more durable, plus an anti-reflective coating for the inner display. Only the ultra-wide camera got upgraded, it now has a 50MP sensor (up from 12MP). And there’s the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset, of course (up from the previous 8 Elite for Galaxy).
Google only has a book-style foldable, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, and no flips. The new Pixel 11 series is coming on August 12, so this one is due for replacement only a few days after the Galaxys hit the market. For completeness’ sake, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold has a 6.4” cover display and an 8.0” inner display. It’s powered by the Tensor G5 and a 5,015mAh battery (30W wired, 15W wireless charging). It has a 48MP main, a 10.8MP 5x/112mm periscope and a 10.5MP ultra-wide camera. The Pixel has superior IP68 dust and water resistance.
Motorola recently launched its first-ever book-style foldable, the Moto Razr Fold. It’s rated IP48 and IP49 – better water resistance than the Galaxy (IP48), but the same ingress protection (“4” is not really dust protection). The Razr has a 6.6” cover and an 8.1” inner display. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 (not Elite) and a large 6,000mAh Si/C battery with fast charging (80W wired, 50W wireless). It has a 50MP main camera, a 50MP 3x/71mm periscope and a 50MP ultra-wide.
The Motorola Razr 70 is a basic flip, not really intended to compete with the Z Flip8. It has a 3.6” cover and a 6.9” inner display. It’s powered by the Dimensity 7450X and a larger 4,800mAh battery (500mAh more than the Galaxy) with similar charging (30W/15W). It has dual 50MP cameras, a wide and an ultra-wide.
Samsung barely bothered to improve the cameras on the Z8 foldables. The Z Fold8 Ultra has a 200MP main (and so does the Z Fold7) and a 50MP ultra-wide, but the 10MP 3x telephoto module will not win any competitions. The Z Fold8 only has a 50MP main and 50MP ultra-wide and the Z Flip8 has it the worst with a 50MP main and 12MP ultra-wide (neither of these two has a tele lens).
If the camera is more important than the folding action, you can get a vivo X300 Pro for less money than the Z Flip8. And remember that the Z Flip8 uses an Exynos 2600 for Europe, while the vivo has a Dimensity 9500. It also has a 50MP main (with a large 1/1.28” sensor), a 200MP 3.7x/85mm telephoto and a 50MP ultra-wide. It’s powered by a 5,440mAh battery (90W/40W charging) and has a 6.78” LTPO OLED display.
Amazon offers a free 90W Flash Charge adapter with the vivo X300 Pro. You can also get it with the smaller vivo X300 (12/256GB, €860) and vivo X300 FE (12/512GB, €860 after a €140 voucher).
You can also have a look at the Xiaomi 17T Pro – its camera is not as capable as that of the vivo, but this one is cheaper while packing the same Dimensity 9500 chipset. The cameras are a 50MP main (with a similar 1/1.31” sensor), a 50MP 5x/115mm periscope and a 12MP ultra-wide. This model has a 6.83” non-LTPO OLED display and a huge 7,000mAh battery (100W/50W charging). The Android 17 update is already rolling out to 17T Pro owners, by the way.
The Xiaomi 17T hasn’t gotten its update yet, but it’s worth a look too. It is smaller with a 6.59” display and a 6,500mAh battery (67W wired-only charging). It uses the Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset and has a similar camera setup – 50MP main (smaller 1/1.55” sensor), 50MP 5x/115mm periscope and a 12MP ultra-wide. You can have a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for a lot less than Samsung is charging. The Poco F8 Ultra is a large phone with a 6.9” display and a 6,500mAh battery (100W/50W). It has a solid set of cameras too – 50MP main (1/1.31”), 50MP 5x/115mm periscope and a 50MP ultra-wide.
The Poco F8 Pro is cheaper and features the previous generation Snapdragon 8 Elite. Like the vanilla 17T, it is smaller with a 6.59” display and a 6,210mAh battery (100W).
