Toyota Fortuner has been ruling the premium three-row SUV segment since its arrive in 2009. Attributes such as strong road presence, off-road capabilities, a powerful engine, brand reliability and high resale value have always worked in its favour.
Aiming to challenge its dominance JSW MG Motors and JSW Motors in partnership with Chery International are planning to launch the Majestor and Jetour T2 SUVs in 2026.
The MG Majestor with a twin-turbo diesel engine is all set to go on sale on April 20, while the Jetour T2 with a plug-in hybrid powertrain will arrive by September 2026. While official prices will be announced on their respective launch dates, the Majestor is expected to cost between Rs 40 lakh – Rs 45 lakh and Jetour T2 is estimated to be priced around Rs 38 lakh – Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom).
Here’re the key details of these two upcoming Toyota Fortuner rival SUVs.
MG Majestor
Deliveries of the MG Majestor will begin in May 2026, while bookings are already underway. The SUV lineup will come in four variants, offering both 6 and 7-seats configurations. It will be exclusively offered with a 2.0L twin turbocharged diesel engine, paired with an 8-speed torque convertor automatic transmission. This setup delivers a maximum power of 215bhp and 478Nm of torque. The SUV comes with on-demand four-wheel-drive (4WD) system along with a terrain management software – ‘M-Hub’.
Jetour T2
The Jetour T2’s plug-in hybrid powertrain consists of a 1.5L direct-injection turbo petrol engine, dual electric motors and a 26.7kWh battery pack. In pure EV mode, the electric motors drive the wheels. The combined power and torque outputs stand at 381bhp and 610Nm, respectively. The SUV comes equipped with a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission that’s claimed to offer better performance than a conventional eCVT unit. The global-spec T2 offers a claimed NEDC electric range of 139km and a combined driving range of over 1,000km.
