Disney+ wants to be TikTok now, but for Disney+ content. So it’s launching Verts, “a whole new way to discover stories” in a vertically-swiping format. This is “the first phase” of bringing vertical video content to Disney+, and it’s (of course) a “dynamic feed” which is billed to help you quickly find your next favorite watch.
You just need to tap the new Verts icon in the navigation bar on your phone, and you’re inside the vertical video feed and “can swipe through a stream of scenes and moments from movies and shows on Disney+”, which you can then seamlessly add to your Watchlist or just start playing.
Disney says that in early experiments, Verts “has driven additional engagement”, much of which can be attributed to the new “advanced algorithm that powers the recommendation engine for the experience to ensure that Verts feels uniquely relevant and personalized to each individual user”.
Over time, Verts will evolve with opportunities to “add content from creators that reflects our fandoms, plus other storytelling formats, content types, and personalized experiences”, Disney says.
