December 2025 turned out to be a profitable month for the Indian automobile industry, with over 40 lakh units were sold across segments. Maruti Suzuki continued to lead the market, registering 37.3% YoY growth, followed by Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors and Hyundai Motor India. Demand for SUVs remained at an all-time high.

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx emerged as the top-selling SUV (essentially a compact crossover) in December 2025, with total sales of 20,706 units against 10,752 units in the same month last year. This translated into a strong 93% YoY growth. The Tata Nexon secured the second spot with sales of 19,375 units compared 13,536 units in corresponding month last year.
The Maruti Brezza posted sales of 17,704 units to became the third top-selling SUV of the month, followed by the Tata Punch. Tata Motors managed to sell 15,980 units of the Punch against 15,073 in December 2024, registering a marginal YoY growth of 6%.
Interestingly, the Mahindra Scorpio (Scorpio N + Scorpio Classic) surpassed the midsize segment leader – the Hyundai Creta. Mahindra sold a total of 15,885 units of the Scorpio sold last month, while the Creta recorded sales of 13,154 units.
With total sales of 10,611 units, the Mahindra Bolero became the seventh best-selling SUV in December 2025. The Hyundai Venue clocked sales of 10,322 units against 10,265 units in December 2024, despite receiving a generational upgrade in November 2025.
The Mahindra XUV 3XO ranked ninth on the list, recording sales of 9,422 units and a 35% YoY growth. The Kia Sonet rounded off the top 10, with sales of 9,418 units compared to 3,337 units in the same month last year. The subcompact SUV registered a massive 182% YoY growth.
