Gurman: iOS 27 is coming with standalone Siri app, updated AI writing tools and Shortcuts

Ahead of WWDC 2026, which is now confirmed to kick off on June 8, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman shared several details regarding the upcoming iOS and iPadOS 27 updates, including its standalone Siri app. It is described as a ChatGPT and Claude-style chatbot app serving as a one-stop shop for a broad range of tasks. The app will include past user conversations and is reportedly positioned to be ad-free and offer auto-deleting chats.

Gurman also details Apple’s prolonged focus on user privacy, which forced the company to delay its AI assistant as it aims to handle user data on its own servers. The new Siri will allegedly be based on Apple Foundation Models, but with Google Gemini doing the heavy lifting. This also means the user data security for more demanding AI tasks will be handled by Google.

Elsewhere, iOS 27 is expected to bring new system-wide AI writing tools, which will be more capable than the currently available Apple Intelligence options. Apple is apparently testing a “Write With Siri” toggle at the top of the keyboard, which will give out suggestions and grammar checking capabilities.

Users will have the option to approve or ignore typing changes and navigate between flagged text selections. Apple is also bringing a “Help Me Write” option when Siri is activated inside an open text field.

Apple is also working on system-wide shortcuts using natural language, new AI wallpaper generation and several editing tools inside the Photos app. Shortcuts is also getting an overhaul with the ability to create actions from user prompts.
