Honda has announced a new product development strategy for the Indian market. Starting in 2028, the Japanese automaker will introduce strategic models tailored to the Indian market in two vehicle segments: sub-4 meter in length and the mid-size. The first product under this strategy will be a new Honda subcompact SUV, rivalling the Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon and Hyundai Venue. It’s scheduled to launch in 2028.
Honda Digital Innovation India Announced
As a part of its strategy, Honda has also established Honda Digital Innovation India Private Ltd. (HDII), a new subsidiary that will provide digital services to expand customer touchpoints and create new mobility experiences for Honda customers in India. The company will begin operations before the end of the current fiscal year, which concludes on March 31, 2027.

Next-Gen Hybrid System – More Efficient & Affordable
On the global front, Honda aims to reduce the cost of its next-generation hybrid system by more than 30% compared to the hybrid system introduced in 2023. By combining its next-generation hybrid system with the next-generation platform and newly-developed electric AWD unit, the carmaker will attempt to improve the fuel economy of the next-generation hybrid model by more than 10%. Honda also claims that the new system will offer “a high-quality and exhilarating driving experience.”
PF2 Platform For India-Bound Hybrid Models
Honda had earlier released details of its new-gen midsize hybrid platform, codenamed PF2. This modular architecture will be used for the brand’s future small and midsize models developed for the Indian market. Compared to the current hybrid platform, the new PF2 will be 90kg lighter and has been engineered to support hybrid powertrains.
Large Hybrid Platform for the U.S. Market
Honda’s next-gen large size hybrid platform will be designed and developed for the US market. It will feature a highly efficient V6 engine meeting stricter emission norms, new batteries and motors and an advanced energy management control system. With this platform, the company aims to achieve 30% higher fuel efficiency and 10% quicker acceleration compared to the ICE models.
Next-Gen ADAS in 2028
Honda is also making progress as planned in the development of next-generation ADAS with plans for the market launch in 2028. The carmaker plans to introduce this next-generation ADAS in more than 15 models over a five-year period.
