Earlier this year, Honda announced its plan to develop India-specific product instead of following its conventional approach of developing global standard vehicles. With this strategy, the Japanese automaker aims to “pursue an optimal balance of performance and price.” Honda Cars India will expand its product portfolio with 10 new models by 2030, with a strong focus on sub-4 metre compact and midsize SUV segments.

Launch Timeline & Expected Prices
The new Honda subcompact SUV is scheduled to launch by 2028. Once launched, the SUV will compete with the Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite. Honda has said that the upcoming subcompact SUV will be designed and developed to meet Indian requirements and customer preferences.
After the discontinuation of the Honda Brio, Jazz and WR-V, it will be Honda’s next attempt to establish a presence in the Indian sub-4 meter SUV segment. Currently, the Japanese automaker has only one offering in the subcompact category – the Amaze.
New Honda Subcompact SUV
Details of the upcoming Honda subcompact SUV are scanty at the moment. However, the model is reportedly expected to be based on Honda’s Global Small Car Platform or a new modular architecture. Its underpinning is likely to support multiple powertrains, including ICE (internal combustion engine), electric and hybrid.
Upcoming Honda SUVs
Meanwhile, Honda Cars India is gearing up to launch the Elevate facelift in the coming weeks. The midsize SUV is expected to receive minimal design changes and feature upgrades while retaining the existing petrol engine. Following the launch of the new Honda Elevate facelift, the carmaker will introduce the Honda 0 Alpha electric SUV to challenge the Maruti eVitara, Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Sierra EV and MG ZS EV.
Global Models For India
According to reports, Honda is also evaluating the possibility of introducing its globally renowned Civic, Accord and CR-V in limited numbers. All three models are expected to be offered in their hybrid versions as full import units. The Honda Prelude hybrid sports car launch is also on the cards. It will be positioned as a halo product and help the carmaker strengthen its brand image.
