Near the end of today’s Robot Phone keynote, Honor pulled out a teaser for the upcoming Magic9 series. The brand confirmed that the Magic9 series is due to launch in September, which is a month earlier than last year’s Magic8 series.
The teaser gives a glimpse into the Magic9 or Magic9 Pro’s camera module, which appears to be off-center in the corner. A few other things also stand out. The ring around the sensors features a knurling pattern, which looks like the one on the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition. It remains to be seen if the one on the Magic9 series will rotate and feature additional camera controls.
What we can spot is that one of the cameras is a 200MP shooter with a 1/1.4″ sensor and OIS. Last year’s Magic8 Pro featured a similarly sized 200MP periscope module with 3.7x optical zoom, so we’ll just have to wait and see if it will also make its way onto the Magic9 series.
We also have to mention the Arri logo which is not surprising given the two companies announced a strategic partnership earlier this summer.
Honor did confirm that the Magic9 series will bring the same video features found on the Robot Phone. These include native Log-C3 video encoding, LUT color grading and a dedicated cinema mode that replicates the look and feel of Arri cinema cameras.
