PRAYAGRAJ: Has ‘IITian baba’ finally got hitched? — this question is gaining traction after a viral video surfaced online showing Abhay Singh, popularly known as the ‘IITian baba’, who rose to fame during the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh, in Jhajjar, Haryana, with a woman he introduced as his wife.As seen in a widely circulated video on a social media platform, Singh was recently spotted in Jhajjar after a prolonged absence. The video shows him dressed in saffron robes, accompanied by his wife, as he visited his father’s chamber and interacted with the media.Interestingly, Singh has been seen along with a woman in a few of the reels posted by him on his Instagram page, but he never introduced the woman to his followers. Now, with this short video, he clarified the relationship and said that he got married in Feb.While interacting in the video, Singh shared details about his personal life, revealing that he got married to Prateeka on Feb 15 on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri at the Aghanjhar Mahadev temple in Himachal Pradesh. The marriage was later legally registered in court on Feb 19. He said that they are currently living a simple and peaceful life in Dharamshala.However, when contacted, his family refused to comment on the development or share any other details.The video also captures Singh revisiting his past as he stepped into his father’s chamber, a place he frequented before turning towards spirituality. He recalled that he would often sit there and review legal documents, assisting his father in routine work.Prateeka, who hails from Karnataka, has an engineering background.Singh belongs to Sasrauli village in Jhajjar district and comes from a well-educated family. His father, Karn Singh, is a lawyer and former president of the local bar association. Singh cleared the prestigious IIT entrance examination and pursued aerospace engineering at IIT Bombay. He later completed a master’s degree in design and moved to Canada, where he worked with an aircraft manufacturing company, reportedly earning a high salary.However, his life took a dramatic turn after he returned to India during the 2021 lockdown. Drawn towards spirituality, he began travelling extensively, visiting places like Kerala and religious congregations. He later came under the guidance of Someshwar Puri in Varanasi, who introduced him to prominent seers during religious gatherings, including the Maha Kumbh, wherein he overnight shot to limelight.Despite his growing recognition, Singh’s journey has been marked by controversies. He was expelled from the Juna akhara in 2025 over alleged violations of discipline. He was also involved in a dispute during a television debate and faced legal issues in Jaipur under the NDPS Act.For now, as reflected in the viral video, Singh appears to be focusing on a quieter life with his wife, balancing spirituality with personal commitments while charting a new course ahead.
