June 2026 turned out to be a profitable month for the Indian automobile industry. A total of 1,56,014 units of passenger vehicles (PVs) were sold last month compared to 1,16,267 units in June 2025, registering a 34.19 percent YoY growth. Interestingly, the Tata Punch and Tata Nexon (including ICE + EV versions) emerged as India’s top-selling cars and SUVs with sales of 21,006 units and 18,335 units, respectively.

The Punch recorded a massive YoY growth of 101.09 percent, while the Nexon accounted a healthy 58.03 percent YoY growth during the same period. In the SUV segment, the Mahindra Scorpio clocked total sales of 14,097 units to became India’s third top-selling SUV in June 2026. The Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic are set to receive midlife updates in the coming months.
With sales of 13,135 units, Maruti Suzuki’s Fronx became the fourth most selling SUV in June 2026. The carmaker is currently testing the Fronx facelift, which is expected to come with an ADAS suite and a strong hybrid powertrain. Once launched, it will become the most affordable hybrid offering in India, debuting with Maruti Suzuki’s in-house developed series hybrid powertrain.
The Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV 3XO secured the fifth and sixth positions with total sales of 10,776 units and 10,063 units, respectively. Maruti Suzuki sold 10,035 units of the Victoris midsize SUV, while the Brezza recorded total sales of 9,939 units. The Indo-Japanese automaker will introduce the 2026 Maruti Brezza facelift with a 1.0L turbocharged Boosterjet petrol engine on July 23, 2026.
Kia India managed to sell 9,654 units of the Seltos, while the Mahindra XUV 7XO recorded total sales of 9,244 units. Both SUVs are expected to receive hybrid powertrain in 2027.
